The Jacksonville Jaguars have been non-committal during OTAs, mandatory mini-camp and the offseason on how much offense and defense Travis Hunter, their first-round draft pick in 2025, will play this season.

The first day of training camp didn’t do much to clarify the situation, which is likely part of the Jags’ overall plan.

Hunter, who was limited in OTAs and minicamp as the team brought him along slowly from the knee injury that cost him the final nine games of the 2025 season, went through his first team periods on Day 1 of training camp on July 29 at the Miller Electric Center. He did individual drills and ran plays with the team at both positions, switching jerseys as he bounced between the two sides.

How many snaps did Travis Hunter take in team periods?

Hunter played offense for four snaps in 11-on-11 periods and one in a 7-on-7 period, and was on defense for eight snaps in 11-on-11 and four on offense. He totaled 12 plays in 11-on-11 and three in 7-on-7 for 15 plays in all.

On the first two plays he was on offense, the Jaguars called running plays to LeQuint Allen Jr. On the four plays he was on defense, the ball went to the other side of the field.

He defended wide receiver Josh Cameron in a 7-on-7 drill, with the pass falling incomplete, but Hunter might have been called for pass interference in a verdadero game.

In his second 11-on-11 period, Hunter was finally targeted by quarterback Nick Mullens. He went high for a pass, came down with it, and the ball was jarred loose by rookie Jalen Huskey. Later in the period, on defense, he covered rookie tight end Tanner Koziol, forcing an incompletion by Mullens.

Hunter split time in individual drills, working on period on offense and defense.
